Job Description:
DriveAbility is a comprehensive driver rehabilitation program dedicated to evaluating and training clients of all ages and diagnoses to learn, return to, or retire from driving. We are seeking a skilled, enthusiastic, and compassionate Certified Occupational Therapist to join our team. Candidates with other relevant degrees and previous experience in the field of Driver Rehabilitation are also highly desired and encouraged to apply.
Initially, the Occupational Therapist will focus on completing, interpreting, and reporting clinical driving evaluations. Advancement into behind-the-wheel evaluations and training is encouraged and will be fully supported for candidates interested in pursuing certification as a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct clinical evaluations following protocols for clients with various medical conditions requiring therapeutic driving interventions.
- Provide clear documentation and recommendations regarding driving ability, including need for further evaluation, adaptive training, new driver education and training, or recommendations for driver cessation.
- Advise medical providers and the on driving recommendations.
- Complete written assessments to document services, progress, and ongoing recommendations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client chart documentation for effective service delivery.
- Ensure necessary service authorizations are in place before providing client services.
- Stay current with available driving equipment and vehicle modifications.
- Adhere to confidentiality standards to protect client information.
- Serve as a resource to healthcare professionals, clients, and the community regarding adaptive driving services and equipment.
- Participate in marketing events and conferences to promote DriveAbility as a provider of adaptive driving services.
- Career advancement, including behind-the-wheel evaluations and training and working towards certification as a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS) through the Association of Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (ADED) is supported and encouraged.
Qualifications:
- Valid New Hampshire Occupational Therapist license (or CDRS, DRP, or DRS certification).
- Clean driving record and a valid driver’s license.
- Minimum of two years of experience in rehabilitation services.
Preferred Skills:
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience working with clients of varying ages and skill levels.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for clear and empathetic discussions.
- Patient, approachable, and friendly demeanor.
- Ability to stay composed and adapt quickly in fluid situations.
- Capacity to make well-informed decisions based on lawful driving practices.
- Attention to detail and good judgment when assessing client progress.

Job Description:
DriveAbility is a comprehensive driver rehabilitation program that works with clients of all ages and diagnoses. We specialize in supporting young adults with developmental and learning disabilities, including autism, anxiety, ADHD, and other learning challenges. We are seeking a skilled, enthusiastic, creative and compassionate Certified Driving Instructor to join our team.
As a Certified Driving Instructor, you will teach new drivers with various diagnoses the theoretical knowledge and practical techniques necessary to operate a motor vehicle safely. You will be responsible for adapting your teaching methods to meet each student’s unique learning style, offering personalized support for their specific driving goals, and helping them gain confidence on the road.
Unlike traditional driver education programs, you will teach students the content required to pass the NH DMV knowledge exam in both 1:1 and small group formats. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with our team of professionals to monitor each student’s progress, ensuring that the highest standards of safety and education are maintained throughout the training process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct Driving Lessons: Provide one-on-one driving lessons for new and experienced drivers, ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.
- Educate Drivers: Instruct students in theoretical knowledge, practical driving skills, defensive driving, and road safety, including preparation for DMV exams.
- Tailor Training: Customize lessons to fit each student’s learning style and specific goals (e.g., independence, work, or personal needs).
- Provide Diverse Driving Experience: Expose students to various road conditions and real-world driving scenarios to build confidence and skills.
- Monitor Student Progress: Regularly assess students’ development and adjust lesson plans to ensure continuous improvement.
- Teach Vehicle Control: Instruct students on proper use of vehicle controls, including steering, braking, acceleration, and safety systems.
- Prepare for Driving Test: Ensure students are prepared for their driving exams by teaching required skills and road rules.
- Maintain Lesson Vehicles: Ensure the vehicle used for lessons is safe, well-maintained, and properly equipped.
- Collaborate with Specialists: Work with CDRS/DRP to monitor client progress and adjust training as necessary.
- Engage with Families: Communicate with students and their families to align on goals and provide guidance for practice driving or home study.
- Ensure Safety and Compliance: Follow safety protocols and local traffic laws during all lessons.
- Handle Administrative Tasks: Complete necessary documentation and maintain accurate records of student progress.
- Develop Lesson Plans: Create lesson plans that align with NH driving regulations and best practices.
- Commit to Continuing Education: Stay updated on traffic laws, driving techniques, and maintain licensure requirements.
Qualifications:
- Valid New Hampshire Driving Instructor’s License.
- Clean driving record and a valid NH driver’s license.
- In-depth knowledge of local road rules and regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, approachable, and friendly demeanor.
